Mental-health levy important

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

I am a 70-year old woman who spent 10 years battling severe depression (“Yes on Issue 24,” editorial, Oct. 5).

I still see a doctor and take medication daily, but now I have a meaningful life.

People should vote in favor of Issue 24, the Lucas County Mental Health and Recovery Services levy. The life you save could be your own, or that of someone close to you.

Levies bad for homeowners

All the levies on the ballot are a bad investment in the Toledo area (“Toledo tax crapshoot: Natural seven or snake eyes?”, op-ed column, Oct. 14).

Many homeowners are at or near the tipping point of whether they can afford to stay in their homes. Adding to the tax burden will not only push them off the edge, but also reduce projected revenues because there will be fewer homeowners to support these expenses. None of these levies will produce what is projected because of a declining tax base.

People should save themselves and their neighbors from further financial harm, and vote no on each levy request.

A plea to vote against levies

Please, everyone, vote no on all tax levies. I am broke.

Voting important; weigh levy issues

Everyone is tired of the ads, phone calls, and emails from candidates. Still, voters should go to the polls because too many people have died to give us this right.

Before they vote, people should calculate how much their taxes will rise if all the levies pass. With everything else going up in price, people should make it easy on everybody and vote no on all levies.

We should make schools and agencies responsible for the dollars they receive already.

Election process needs attention

The two presidential nominees need to address the process by which the nation elects them.

Should three debates and media hype alone determine the real qualifications to be president? Can we be so stupid as to think that the president alone can create thousands of jobs? Then there is the obscene fund-raising that in actuality is the selling of the Oval Office.

Neither candidate seems to worry about these real issues, nor about how we can improve the way we govern ourselves.

God has to do more than bless America. God has to save America.
