‘Pure Michigan’ recalls memories

Michigan last year attracted 3.8 million visitors to such sites as Pictured Rocks National Seashore in Munising, Mich.

Thank you for the nice article on “Pure Michigan” and the wonderful photograph of the Pictured Rocks (“Michigan tourism spending rises; Weather, ‘Pure’ campaign credited for 6% increase in 2012,” April 16).

I grew up in Ishpeming, Mich., about 40 miles from Munising. My parents took us to the Pictured Rocks on my seventh birthday. We stopped at a roadside park along Lake Superior and had pasties for lunch. It was a long, long time ago, but I remember it as though it was yesterday. The Upper Peninsula is absolutely beautiful.
