President Obama has responded to the 3.2 million Americans who spoke out through emails and post cards collected by environmental groups nationwide, urging him to take the lead on climate change (“President plans executive acts to tame climate-change effects; Obama lists carbon cuts, green energy,” June 26).
All of us who have felt the effects of global warming or are simply worried about what’s in store for our children can take comfort in knowing that President Obama has put the nation on track toward a cleaner, healthier, and safer future.
President Obama’s climate action plan will do several key things to help fulfill his pledge to address global warming. Of these, the most important is limits on carbon pollution from new and existing power plants, which are the largest single source of the pollution fueling global warming — yet before now they hadn’t been subject to any federal carbon pollution limits.
Mr. Obama’s plan also advances energy efficiency and clean, renewable energy efforts. It supports initiatives to help communities better prepare for and recover from the impacts of global warming that are felt today.
Ohio is a leader in energy production, but the coal power race is coming to an end. Let’s seize this opportunity to lead our country in the course towards a clean energy economy.
I thank President Obama for believing in Ohio and believing in our country to establish a sustainable future for generations to come. His plan will combat climate change and grow our economy.
