LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Krugman a shill for Democrats

I laugh when I read Paul Krugman’s ramblings in your newspaper (“Where is Milton Friedman when we need him?” op-ed column, Aug. 19).

The gist of Mr. Krugman’s philosophy is: Fiscal responsibility is wrong, because all problems could be solved if government spends more tax dollars. It’s not anyone’s fault, because the problem was inevitible. People should keep doing what they are doing, because things will be all right.

It seems as though Mr. Krugman has too much free time. He is a shill for tax-and-spend Democrats.

Tiffin president ripped over Ivy
I am disappointed by Tiffin University President Paul Marion’s lack of support for Ivy Bridge College and his failure to criticize the Higher Leaning Commission (“Despite Ivy Bridge’s end, Tiffin U. maintains high-quality education,” op-ed column, Aug. 15).

Mr. Marion praised the benefits of the university’s partnership with Ivy Bridge, and said the college enabled Tiffin to reach out to more people who wanted an affordable education to further their career goals.

What is the Higher Learning Commission? Why did it yank the rug out from under Tiffin by ruling that the business structure of the joint venture did not meet its policies on partnerships? Is our higher education system so good that we can afford to ignore viable options to today’s same old ways of educating people?

I have been disgusted with our system of higher education for years. We have a nation full of poorly trained college graduates who are saddled with enormous debt. The system just keeps perpetuating itself.

Mr. Marion may be the president of Tiffin, but he sure isn’t leading it.

Cheerio’s death was shameful
It is a shame that the little dog Cheerio was put down (“Story of Cheerio generates storm of reader reaction; Some comments blame owner; others take dog warden to task,” Aug. 18).

I don’t think it would have broken the bank for the Lucas County Dog Warden’s Office to drop the fees and return the dog to its owner.

County Dog Warden Julie Lyle should be fired. This is not the first time she has made a bad call. Some people couldn’t wait to get rid of the former dog warden, and look what we have now.

Dog story, cartoon waste of space
The story about Cheerio was ridiculous. It was just another attempt to pick on Julie Lyle.

Then you wasted space on the Pages of Opinion with editorial cartoonist Kirk Walters’ representation of Cheerio’s collar.

The dog failed the tests given by the dog warden; why is there a need to explain more? Give the dog warden some space and let her do her job.
