Your Dec. 1 editorial “Air piracy” is a continuation of The Blade’s bullying style. It is not only getting old, but also to the point of being quite destructive to this city.
You question what qualifies the Treece family to run Toledo Express Airport. The questions should be what qualifies the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority to do so, and who gets to decide who is the better operator?
People and businesses are not welcome in Toledo because of The Blade’s continued good-old-boy approach to any new ideas or players in northwest Ohio.
Unfortunately for Toledo, people continue to vote with their feet.
Let Treeces use their expertise
The port authority loses $300,000 a year operating Toledo Express, and a party steps up that is willing to pay a significant amount of money to eliminate the losses.
Let the Treeces, who run a successful local enterprise, use their expertise and their assets to think outside the box to create a profitable business.
What do the city and county have to lose?
Treeces savvier than Obama
A man with zero experience as an executive or manager, or in any business endeavor — President Obama — can get elected to the highest office in the land. But people who are familiar with the aviation industry and have a proven track record of successful business management are not considered qualified to run the airport.
Pilots not best to run an airport
The Dock Treece organization’s stated qualification for managing the airport is that one of its principals has logged 2,000 hours of flight time. But the Treeces have no business plan or experience running anything as big and complicated as Toledo Express.
I have more than 5,000 hours logged as a pilot in various airplanes, but that doesn’t make me qualified to run Toledo Express.
