Light shed on daylight-saving time dangers

3/2/2014

March 9 is the beginning of daylight-saving time. It is a sign that spring is coming, a welcome event after this cold and snowy winter.

Children will be walking to school and waiting at bus stops in the dark after we set our clocks ahead. Drivers should use extra caution during the morning commute, because children will be harder to see.

Parents should remind their children to be extra careful as they walk on or near roadways, and to be vigilant in looking out for traffic. Children should always walk against traffic.

Sometimes our young ones forget that while they can see vehicles, that does not mean drivers see them. Parents should buy coats that are bright and reflect light.
