Addicts’ voices need to be heard
5/4/2014The column by Jeff Gerritt, The Blade’s deputy editorial page editor, about Michael Flunder was inspiring (“Heroin epidemic younger, whiter, but addiction horrors unchanged,” April 13). Voices such as Mr. Flunder’s need to be part of the conversation about drug addiction.
I commend Mr. Gerritt for taking the time to explore the world of the recovering addict. He discovered a real treasure in Mr. Flunder, who is a tireless advocate for addicts in Toledo.

Choice of Nugent right for Rib-Off
I have purchased tickets for the 31st Annual Northwest Ohio Rib-Off to see Ted Nugent’s performance (“Even the outrageous Nugent has right to free speech,” commentary, April 20). I have friends from all over the Midwest who will also attend Mr. Nugent’s performance.
Some people are protesting Mr. Nugent’s presence at the Rib-Off, but I am an advocate of his appearance. Mr. Nugent advocates building strong family bonds, living a healthy and productive drug-free life, making wise use of natural resources, preserving our nation’s Constitution, and supporting veterans and law enforcement officers in his words and his actions.
The Blade made a wonderful choice in selecting Mr. Nugent to perform at the Rib-Off.
