President again shifts blame

7/29/2014

President Obama says he has a pen and a phone, and will use them when Congress will not do what he wants (“Immigration no-brainer: Obama must close a legal loophole,” op-ed column, July 15).

So why did he say it is up to Congress to solve the border crisis with legislation? He could sign an executive order to treat Central American border crossers the same as Mexicans.

Again, he is blaming Congress for his mistakes. Did he purposefully create this crisis to overwhelm the system and force comprehensive immigration reform?

Obama stacks deck with ‘illegals’
When President Obama says he plans to go it alone on immigration reform, we need to listen to what that means (“Go big on immigration,” guest editorial, July 8).

He has the power to pardon illegal immigrants with the stroke of a pen; hence, all of the immigrants are due all civil rights under the Constitution. These immigrants will owe their allegiance to a Democrat.

President Obama will wait until after the midterm elections before executing the pardons. To do so before the elections would harm his already shaky hold on the Senate.

President Obama will hide behind the Constitution, which he has trampled on for the past six years.

This immigration reform will be Mr. Obama’s and the Democratic Party’s legacy. It will be a gift that will keep on giving long after Mr. Obama has left office.

Immigrants have improved U.S.
As a black American and descendant of forced emigres to this country, I have a different perspective on the immigration problem. The fears expressed by the writer of the July 18 Readers’ Forum letter “Sealing border safeguards U.S.” are the basis of how this country was formed.

Some of the worst illegal immigrants did bring weapons and diseases that killed many Native Americans. But they also brought the ingredients that made this the greatest country in the world.

Could this influx of immigrants be the next step in advancing our country to further greatness? Our borders never should be sealed.

Immigrants must go through system
In all the talk about illegal immigrants, what do people not understand about the word “illegal”?

My parents immigrated to the United States in 1949. They went through all the legal channels. They were excited to become U.S. citizens.

There should be no easy way to immigrate or to become a citizen. The procees should be equally enforced for everyone.

Illegals should be sent home.
