A sincere show of remorse on the part of Urban Meyer would be for him to donate a generous sum of money to women’s shelters around the state.

Dramatic action needed

To all brothers and sisters who worship as Catholics, it is time for more stringent action.

As noted in the letter from Bishop Daniel Thomas of Toledo to parishioners, Cardinal Theodore McCarrick along with other bishops and priests sexually abused minors for over 70 years. It is obvious the will of these bishops and priests was too weak to resist temptation. They failed, even with national headlines denouncing molestation under the sanctity of the church, to create a safe atmosphere for their charges. Just how many were sexually molested over the past 70 years? We will never know but is time to consider more drastic action.

When one becomes a Catholic priest, they should be subject to castration, chemically or surgically, to eliminate their sex drive. If they refused, they could not become an ordained priest.

I know this will not be taken well by the Catholic hierarchy, but it would eliminate what appears to be a pervasive sin perpetuated within that hierarchy.

Insightful and reasoned

I am 73 years old and a native Toledoan so I’ve been reading The Blade for a very long time.

The Aug. 24 editorial, “Let the people decide,” was probably the most insightful and well-reasoned editorial I have ever read in The Blade, or any other newspaper. Well done.

Sinking the ship

Reading The Blade’s Aug. 24 editorial, “Let the people decide,” was like reading a news release from Fox News.

The idea that prosecutors are taking over the country is absurd. As for “draining the swamp”? President Trump brought those people with him; they were not already there. Michael Cohen was his attorney for many years and Paul Manafort was his campaign manager.

Some people were willing to give Mr. Trump a real chance and he has squandered it. This administration has lost faith with the American people.

Mr. Trump is not draining the swamp; he is sinking the ship.
