Help the Toledo Botanical Garden to grow by attending the Crosby Festival of the Arts preview party on Friday night. Artist booths will be open from 6-9 p.m., with opportunities to purchase works of art before the festival is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday.

There will be live music, as well as delicious food prepared by Nazareth Hall Catering using Toledo GROWS produce. Sample this year’s signature cocktail, the Crosby Mule, a mix of basil, muddled raspberry, ginger beer, and vodka. Tickets cost $75 for this event at the garden, 5403 Elmer Dr.

Polish festival
Celebrate all things Polish — music, food, beer, dancing, and more — at the Lagrange Street Polish Festival from July 11-13. There will be children’s activities, a polka contest, a pierogi eating contest, a “best pierogi” contest (that I‘m very excited to be judging), and an appearance by Polka Floyd.
The festival will be on Lagrange Street between Central Avenue and Mettler Street. Hours are 5-11 p.m. on July 11, noon-11 p.m. on July 12, and noon-7 p.m. on July 13. General admission is $4 ($2 on Sunday), and free for children 8 and younger. No one under 18 will be admitted without an accompanying adult. Proceeds are invested back into the neighborhood for scholarships, as well as neighborhood maintenance and renovations.

Summer obsession
Pinkberry, with a franchise at 931 E. Wooster St. on the Bowling Green State University campus, is holding a “My Summer Obsession” Instagram contest nationwide. Frozen yogurt fans are invited to use Pinkberry’s yogurts and toppings to create a masterpiece, take a picture of their creation, and post the image to Instagram tagging @pinkberryswirl and using the hashtag #mysummerobsession. Pinkberry will judge the entries based on creativity and taste. There will be a grand prize winner as well as first and second place runners-up, with available prizes of $1,000, $500, and $250 respectively. Winners will be announced on Sept. 3.

‘Good Earth Guide’
The Good Earth Guide to Organic and Ecological Farms, Gardens, and Related Businesses is produced by the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association and offers all sorts of information about 450 farms and businesses (193 of which are certified organic) as well as 100 community-supported agriculture programs. “Since the first Good Earth Guide in 1990, the directory has grown from a list of a dozen or so to 450 farms and businesses, reflecting the tremendous growth in locally-sourced and sustainably-produced foods, fibers, products, and services,” says program director Renee Hunt.
The guide is searchable online and identifies sources for a wide variety of agricultural products, from fruits and vegetables to meat and honey to grains and straw. It is available free at oeffa.org/search-geg.php.
