OMAHA A Toledo boy who needed a liver and intestine transplant is resting after surgery at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

A.J. Nye, 10, who was born with his large and small intestines outside of his abdomen, underwent a 10-hour operation yesterday, his great-aunt, Patti Irons, said.

The family was told the organs were available about 10 p.m. Friday, and A.J. was wheeled into surgery at 7 a.m. yesterday.

Doctors are keeping him asleep, and have told the family the 48 hours after the surgery are critical for his recovery.
