Low blood supply prompts appeal for area donations

3/2/2005

Bad weather and other factors have drawn down local supplies of donated blood to unusually low levels, and American Red Cross officials are seeking help.

Judy Pearson, spokesman for the Western Lake Erie Region of the Red Cross, said there is less than a one-day supply of O positive, O negative, and A positive, and all blood types are under a two-day supply.

The supply of O negative, much sought after because it can be given to any blood type, is less than half a day.
