ProMedica will cut 45 in Adrian, Tecumseh

8/4/2007

Toledo s ProMedica Health System will cut a combined 45 positions at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian and Herrick Medical Center in Tecumseh, Mich.

Thirteen laboratory positions were eliminated in May at the Bixby center.

Tedra White, director of media relations for ProMedica, cited Michigan s poor economy and declining patient volume as the main reasons for the 58 cuts.

About half the cuts announced Wednesday are administrative support positions. The remainder likely will affect administrative and information technology staff.

Ms. White said through scheduling adjustments and reassignments, fewer than 45 workers will lose their jobs.

She said affected employees are being urged to apply for other openings within the ProMedica Health System.

Union and non-union positions are affected. Collective bargaining agreements will determine how union workers will be recalled or assigned to other positions.

This was a very difficult decision and one that we gave long and careful consideration, Greg Corbett, president of Bixby Medical Center and Herrick Medical Center, said in a statement. Our first priority is ensuring that we provide our patients with the highest quality of care.
