Brinya Scott, 6, tries on her new slippers, given to her Tuesday by Emily Fisher, right, at Mercy Children's Hospital as part of her Happy Feet program.

Emily, 12, had spent a great deal of time in hospitals because she has a rare genetic disease and had tired of the ‘itchy, scratchy’ hospital socks she had to wear. Just before her 10th birthday, she started a nonprofit foundation, Emily's Happy Feet, and solicits donations of ‘happy’ slippers she gives to pediatric hospital patients.
