Officials at Mercy Health System are announcing today the addition of new cardiovascular services at St. Anne Hospital in West Toledo.

Construction is expected to begin soon to renovate a portion of the hospital that was built in 2002. When the renovation is complete, the hospital will open a new catheterization lab and cardiac surgery center.

Hospital spokesman Sarah Bednarski said Mercy recently completed a survey of residents in the area around St. Anne which pointed to the need for additional cardiac services in the area. At present, if a patient goes to St. Anne with heart problems, he or she would likely be transferred to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center which houses the Mercy Heart and Vascular Center, she said.

The price tag for the renovations and new equipment is about $3.7 million. The new services will be constructed from existing space within the current surgical area that was created during the original construction of the building.
