2 ex-L.A. County sheriff's deputies accused of planting guns to justify pot dispensary arrests
4/23/2014LOS ANGELES — Two former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies have been charged with planting guns at a medical marijuana dispensary, resulting in the arrest of a man who was sentenced to more than a year in jail.
Prosecutors say Julio Martinez and Anthony Paez (pie-EHZ‘) were charged last week.
Both are free on bail and it’s unclear whether they have attorneys.
Prosecutors say the deputies planted two guns at a dispensary in August 2011 then arrested two men for drug and weapons crimes.
One had his case dismissed but the other pleaded no contest in 2012 and was sentenced to 180 days in jail — although it’s unclear how much time he served.
An internal sheriff’s investigation led to the deputies — both department veterans — being dismissed last year.
