The Prescribed Pediatric Center is the first childcare facility in Lucas County to receive Ohio’‍s five-star Step Up to Quality rating.

Started in 1993, PPC serves children of all ages with special medical needs and developmental delays. While some of its 26 students attend for the full day, others are there after school hours to do classroom activities ranging from individual motor skill enhancement to group art projects.

The Ohio Departments of Job and Family Services and of Education revised its rating system to include five rather than three stars in October, 2013, with the highest rating reserved for providers that exceed the state’‍s basic health and safety standards.

After an inspection in late May, the departments commended the center’‍s Anne Grady Day Program for its staff’‍s assessment of the children, close work with doctors and early intervention specialists, and communication with schools and families, according to Kerrianne Detwiler, the child development coordinator.

“It was a good payoff for the hard work that was put in,” Ms. Detwiler said.

PPC is housed in the EduCare Center at 1932 Birchwood Ave.
