A food handler in a Monroe, Mich., restaurant has hepatitis A, triggering a warning from the county health department. The agency is urging anyone who consumed food or drink from Olga’s Kitchen, 2072 N. Telegraph Road, since Feb. 24 to get a hepatitis A vaccine.

“While Hepatitis A can be very serious, we are fortunate to have an effective vaccine available,” Dr. Carl J. Schmidt, medical director of the Monroe County Health Department, said in a news release. “We encourage anyone concerned about potential exposure to speak with their health care provider or MCHD as soon as possible.”

Anyone potentially exposed to hepatitis A should contact their health care provider to be assessed for vaccination or IG treatment, the agency said. Hepatitis A vaccine is available from health care providers, pharmacies and at MCHD.
