TECUMSEH - A 52-year-old Deerfield man was uninjured when his single-engine plane lost power yesterday and crashed north of the Meyers Airport in Tecumseh.

A Lenawee County sheriff's deputy reported seeing the plane go down at 8:41 a.m. The pilot, Keith Diver, told investigators that he was taking off at Meyers Airport when he lost power. He said he tried to land in an open field but struck some trees and crashed.

The plane was damaged heavily and the engine caught fire, but crews brought the blaze under control. The 1960 Meyer plane was carrying 60 gallons of fuel.

The Tecumseh fire department, Tecumseh police, and Lenawee County Ambulance Service responded.

The Lenawee County sheriff's office and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.
