Deputies to receive bulletproof vests

7/9/2001

HILLSDALE - Hillsdale County sheriff's deputies will wear bulletproof vests while on patrol and during emergency situations, thanks to two grants.

The department will receive a total of $23,540 to buy the vests.

The department received $9,850 from the Hillsdale Community Foundation and $13,690 from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Prior to the grants, deputies in the southeast Michigan county wore little or no ballistic protection, Sheriff Stan Burchardt said.
