Bridge, culvert work set for Hillsdale

9/28/2001

MONROE - A bridge replacement on U.S. 24 north of here and three culvert replacements on M-49 in Hillsdale County are part of a $1.5 billion highway program the Michigan Department of Transportation announced yesterday for 2002.

The U.S. 24 bridge over the Huron River is to be replaced next year, as are M-49 culverts over several branches of Sand Creek in Hillsdale County. Cost estimates were not available.

Overall, MDOT plans to rehabilitate more than 1,600 miles of pavement and repair or replace more than 200 bridges. The program includes funds for crossovers in the median on U.S. 23 between Ida Center Road and M-50 near Dundee, which will be used during a major resurfacing project scheduled for 2003.
