Commissioner joins race for Michigan seat

3/13/2002

MONROE - Longtime Monroe County Commissioner Gail Hauser-Hurley announced last night she plans to run for the 55th district seat being vacated by State Rep. Gene DeRossett (R., Manchester).

She will not seek a seventh consecutive term on the county board this year. Mrs. Hauser-Hurley, 49, represents a county commission district that includes Erie Township and the eastern portions of Bedford Township.

Mr. DeRossett, who has served two terms in the House, announced several weeks ago he will seek a third consecutive term from the 52nd district, where he lives, instead of the 55th district, which includes western Monroe County and portions of southeastern Washtenaw County.

Mrs. Hauser-Hurley, who is making her first run for state office, becomes the first Democrat to enter the race. Republicans Matt Milosh of Lambertville and Pittsfield Township Supervisor Bill Dean have begun to campaign for the position.
