Don't pin your hopes on UM spoiling the Buckeyes' season

  • Does Michigan have a chance against the juggernaut that is Ohio State? Sure.

If at least two offensive linemen get arrested and suspended between now and Saturday morning.

If one of Ohio State's key starters is hospitalized for tryptophan poisoning.

If Urban Meyer decides to leave Friday morning for a lengthy spiritual retreat in the mountains of Peru.

If the Buckeyes' bus breaks down somewhere on northbound I-75. It happened last year to Michigan as it was en route to Columbus.

Don't expect any of these things to happen. But whether it's tiddlywinks, chess, or synchronized swimming, the Wolverines wouldn't mind spoiling anything for the Buckeyes.

If UM pulls off a miracle and wins this game it will throw another wrench into the already dysfunctional Big Ten and could shrink OSU's hopes for playing for the BCS title.

If Michigan loses, it's got to do so with respectability in order to salvage something at the end of a less-than-stellar season.

Again, Michigan, a team that everyone from Vegas to Versailles (Ohio, and maybe France) has written off, wouldn't mind playing the spoiler.

But don't pin your hopes on it.
