Lennerton, Guez lift Hens past Columbus

COLUMBUS — Jordan Lennerton and Ben Guez each drove in three runs to lead the Mud Hens to a 9-6 win over Columbus on Wednesday.

Lennerton hit a two-run home run to give Toledo a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The first baseman also doubled in another run in the sixth.

Guez, a center fielder, drove in two runs with a single in the third that put the Hens ahead 5-0 and added an RBI single in the fifth.

Left fielder Nick Castellanos drove in two runs and scored three times. Designated hitter Mike Cervenak had the other RBI.

Toledo starter Shawn Hill (4-12) gave up five earned runs on eight hits over 5 2/​3 innings but still picked up the win.

Reliever Darin Downs pitched 1 1/​3 scoreless innings, and Kenny Faulk did not yield a run in one inning of work for the Hens. Jose Ortega earned the save by retiring one batter.

Columbus scored four runs in the third. The Clippers trailed 6-4 when Toledo tallied three more runs in the sixth.

The teams combined for 27 hits as Toledo had 17. The Mud Hens went 7 of 18 with runners in scoring position.

Castellanos drove in his 63rd run of the season and now has 33 doubles.

The Hens play at Indianapolis today and Friday before returning home for a 10-game homestand beginning on Saturday.
