Mud Hens to honor champions

8/28/2003

The Mud Hens will honor the 50th anniversary of the Toledo Sox winning the 1953 American Association title in ceremonies at Fifth Third Field on Saturday.

Five members of Toledo's last championship team will be at the ballpark as Jack Cerin, Jack Daniels, Virgil Jester, Billy Reed and Bert Thiel will be joined by Tom Beard, the team's batboy, and Frank Gilhooley, the team's radio broadcaster.

All seven will be introduced before the game with Louisville and a video tribute will be shown. The group also will sign autographs in the main concourse from 7 p.m. until 7:53 - a time chosen to match the championship year.
