Oliver, Eldred help Hens edge Knights

FORT MILL, S.C. -- Andrew Oliver and Zach Miner combined to toss a five-hit shutout, and Brad Eldred blasted his 15th home run of the season as the Toledo Mud Hens snapped a two-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over the Charlotte Knights on Thursday.

Oliver earned the win to improve to 3-1 on the season. He gave up five hits and four walks with eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Miner finished the game with 3 1/3 scoreless frames with two strikeouts and one walk.

Eldred hit a solo shot off Charlotte starter Charles Leesman to leadoff the fourth inning. Eric Patterson followed that with a triple and scored on a single by Omir Santos.

Toledo's Justin Henry, Patterson, and Santos each notched two hits.

Osvaldo Martinez went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles for Charlotte.

Late on Wednesday, the Mud Hens dropped a 6-5 game against the Knights.

Chris Bootcheck melted down in the ninth inning as he gave up four earned runs on two hits and five walks to earn the loss.
