DURHAM, N.C. — The Mud Hens squandered one of their best offensive performances of the young season with their worst pitching effort of the year in a 9-8 loss at Durham today.

Three Toledo pitchers allowed a season-high nine runs and 16 hits as the team lost its third game in a row.

The Hens broke on top with a first-inning home run by Nick Castellanos but Durham scored four times in the first off starter Shawn Hill.

Toledo tied the game in the second thanks to a pair of home runs off Durham starter Jake Odorizzi. John Lindsey led off the inning with a home run, and Argenis Diaz singled with one out to set the table for Brad Davis, who lined his first home run of the season.

Durham took the lead when a run scored on a third-inning ground, then added two unearned runs in the fourth. The Bulls added two runs in the sixth off reliever Ramon Garcia.

The Mud Hens rallied for four runs in the eighth off Durham reliever Will Inman. Ben Guez walked, then moved to third on a double by Diaz. Singles by Davis and Brandon Douglas each produced a run, and Castellanos doubled to right-center to score two more.

Bulls reliever Frank De Los Santos coaxed a double-play groundout by Diaz to finish the game.
