Mud Hens place Jose Valverde on inactive list as pitcher attends family matter

LOUISVILLE -- The Mud Hens placed Right-handed pitcher Jose Valverde on the temporary inactive list before Friday's game at Columbus.

According to Detroit officials, Valverde left the team to attend to a family matter, and there is no timetable for his return. Toledo will play games in Louisville today and Sunday, then take three days off for the All-Star break before beginning a series in Buffalo Thursday, July 18.

Valverde pitched in four games with the Hens and converted two save opportunities but had a 4.50 ERA.

Valverde was 0-1 with nine saves and a 5.59 ERA in 20 relief appearances with the Tigers.He was designated for assignment on June 21 and accepted a demotion to Toledo on June 27.
