Toledo has hit parade at host Indianapolis

Mud Hens knock 16 hits on the way to a 7-4 victory.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Mud Hens fell one shy of their season high with 16 hits on the way to a 7-4 win over Indianapolis Monday.

Toledo had at least one hit in every inning but the ninth and scored runs in five different frames to win its second game in a row.

The Mud Hens scored in the second inning on two singles and an RBI groundout by Argenis Diaz, but the Indians got that run back in the bottom of the inning on a Jared Goedert homer.

The Hens retook the lead in the third on two singles and Mike Cervenak’s sacrifice fly, but Indianapolis again retied the game in the fourth on two singles, a sacrifice, and a sacrifice fly by Ivan DeJesus.

Toledo took the lead for good by scoring on a wild pitch and coming home on a Cervenak sacrifice fly.

The Hens added a run in the sixth when Diaz tripled and scored on a single by Hernan Perez, then added two insurance runs in the eighth.

Octavio Dotel pitched one scoreless inning with Toledo on a rehab assignment and allowed one hit with two strikeouts. Alex Avila also rehabbed with the Mud Hens and went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks while catching the first seven innings.

The left-hander won both of his starts last week, including a complete-game one-hit shutout at home against Gwinnett Monday and seven innings of three-hit shutout ball at Louisville Sunday. In 16 innings Hardy allowed just four hits and three walks while striking out nine and not allowing a run.

Hardy now is 6-1 with a 1.86 ERA with Toledo since his June promotion from Double-A Erie.
