Celebrity chef, Toledo-native Susan Feniger bringing Mudville to City of Angels

Toledo's favorite native daughter, Susan Feniger, is bringing a little bit of her home town back to Los Angeles.

Feniger, a celebrity chef known for her many shows on the Food Network and her popular Border Grill restaurants, is opening a new restaurant in L.A. on Dec. 7, according to several media sources. She is going to call it the Mud Hen Tavern, to commemorate the happy memories she has of going to baseball games in Toledo.

"But it’s not a sports bar,” she told the Los Angeles Times, “just a place to meet up with friends, have a drink, and hang out and eat great food. I always remember going to Mud Hen games with my dad and afterward all of our family friends going to a bar called Andre’s. It’s about that kind of place for friends to get together.”

The restaurant will offer Ms. Feniger's distinctive twist on traditional foods, such as chicken and waffles with spicy maple syrup and bacon, pumpkin ravioli, whiskey-maple braised short ribs, and her own take on green eggs and ham.

It will also serve sandwiches, pizzas made in a wood-burning oven, salads, and vegetarian and vegan options. And for dessert? A cinnamon roll bread pudding.

Mud Hen Tavern takes the space of her most recently opened restaurant, Street, which featured the street food of nations around the world. It closed earlier this month.
