Lennerton homers in 10th, lifts Mud Hens

3-run shot propels Toledo over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in extra frame

MOOSIC, Pa. — Jordan Lennerton hit a three-run home run in the top of the 10th inning, sending the Toledo Mud Hens past the Scranton/​Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 6-3 on Tuesday night.

The Mud Hens trailed 3-1 in the sixth inning when Trevor Crowe and Danny Worth both singled, then later scored on Hernan Perez’s double. The scored stayed that way until extra innings.

In the 10th, Ben Guez drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on Crowe’s single. Lennerton then delivered what proved to be the game-winning hit for Toledo.

Justin Miller (1-0) retired both batters he faced and got the win for the Mud Hens. Starter Drew VerHagen allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings, struck out three, and walked three. Kevin Whelan pitched a perfect 10th inning to earn his 10th save.

Jim Miller (4-2) allowed three runs in two innings and took the loss.

Crowe and Tyler Collins both finished with three hits for the Mud Hens, and Perez had two.
