Club Bijou, The Underground closed for facelifts

8/1/2001

Club Bijou and The Underground are closed for facelifts and will reopen Aug 23 with a new look.

Nightclub impresario Kypros “Kip” Diacou owns the old theater at Superior and Jefferson streets, and he likes to “reinvent” his venues. It is company policy to shut down, recarpet, deodorize, scrub, and rename successful clubs every few years - sometimes recycling names from the past. The building at 209 North Superior has housed The Asylum, Clubland, and Citi Theater, and previous incarnations of the Red Room and Club Bijou.

A recording at the old Bijou phone number, confirmed by an employee at Kip Enterprises, says the complex will reopen as The Attic, Downtown Pub, The Red Room, The Underground, and Club Bijou, “featuring 10 bars and three dance floors, all for one cover charge.”
