Travis to share budget decorating ideas

Decorating expert Debbie Travis will appear at 7 p.m. May 11 at the Stranahan Theater Great Hall, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd., as guest speaker in the Authors! Authors! series sponsored by the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library and The Blade. Author of the best-selling Debbie Travis' Painted House and creator and host of the television series The Painted House, she offers decorating techniques that anyone can do on a budget. "Paris After Dark," part of the Friday night cabaret series at the Franciscan Center at Loudes College, 6832 Convent Blvd., Sylvania, is scheduled at 8 p.m. Friday. Pounding the Pavement for A.J. will feature three rock bands uniting for a fund-raiser from 8 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday at Toledo Speedway Bar & Grill, 5625 Benore Rd. A.J. is a 10-year-old Toledo child who received a liver transplant. Bands performing will be E.J. Wells & the Bleeding Deacons, Buck 69, and Society's Ugly Son. The Susie Arioli Band will take the stage at 8 p.m. Friday in Owens Community College's Mainstage Theatre for a night of jazz, blues, and swing music from the 1930s and '40s. Tickets are $18, $16 for seniors and Owens employees, and $10 for students from the box office, 419-661-2787.

Mark Winegardner, author of The Godfather Returns, speaks at 7:30 p.m. May 4 at the Maumee Branch Library, 501 River Rd. The native of Bryan, Ohio, will read from his novel and explain "How We Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love the Mob." The program is free but seating is limited.
