Symphony plans young people's concert

The Toledo Symphony presents "Beethoven Lives Upstairs" at 11 a.m. April 28 in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle, 2445 Monroe St. The theatrical concert introduces children and their families to the music of Beethoven. Tickets range from $16 to $20 for adults and $8 to $10 for children 12 and younger.

The symphony also is to present the Blade Chamber Series concert "Death and Transfiguration" at 7 p.m. April 29 in the Toledo Club, 235 14th St. Tickets are $25 and $35. Information: 419-246-8000 or 800-348-1253.

A performance Wednesday by the American String Trio at Bowling Green State University has been cancelled.

A Faculty Artist Series recital by jazz pianist Russel Schmidt is scheduled for 8 p.m. Wednesday in Bryan Recital Hall of BGSU's Moore Musical Arts Center. Also in Bryan, the Bowling Green Opera Theatre will present opera scenes at 8 p.m. April 20.

Kobacker Hall will host World Percussion Night featuring the Afro-Caribbean Ensemble, the Kusuma Sari Gamelan, and the Hayabusa Taiko Ensemble at 8 p.m. April 19. These performances are free.

The 30th annual Ohio Dance Festival titled Dance Matters: BiG Moves will take place April 20-22 in the Eppler Complex and the Eva Marie Saint Theatre. The festival will consist of workshops, panel discussions, technique classes and performances for dancers of all ages and expertise. Auditions will also be held for professional dance companies. Owen Community College, 30335 Oregon Rd., Perrysburg, will host its second annual spring concert series April 23-26 in the college's Center for Fine and Performing Arts.

The Owens Jazz Express will perform in the Mainstage Theatre at 7:30 p.m. April 23. A student recital will take place in the Arts Rotunda at 2 p.m. April 24, and the Owens Guitar Ensemble will perform in the Studio Theatre at 7:30 p.m.

A harp performance by adjunct faculty member Denise Grupp-Verbon and friends will take place at 5:30 p.m. April 25, and a faculty recital will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre.

A improvisational and repertoire class will take place in the Arts Rotunda at 2 p.m. April 26 and a Voice Class Recital will take place in the Mainstage Theatre at 7:30 p.m. All performances are free.
