LatinoFest to offer music, clowns, more

The 7th annual LatinoFest is scheduled from 1 to 11 p.m. June 9 in Promenade Park in downtown Toledo. Performers include Bobby Pulido, Sammy Deleon, Los Cuatro Vientos, Mas Caliente, and more. "Family Time" will be from 1 to 6 p.m. with clowns, magicians, arts and crafts, children's music, a petting zoo, Madcaps Puppets, COSI, and more. Riverdance returns at 8 p.m. June 5-7 to the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. The celebration of Irish music and dance is in its 11th year. Tickets are $23, $43, and $53 from the box office, 419-381-8851.

The Ohio Theatre, 3114 Lagrange St., presents its "Big 7" heavy-metal show tomorrow. Scheduled are the touring bands Killer Von Dugan, the Jonah Veil, Give or Take, Savage Nature of Man, and Then There Was None. Also performing will be Toledo's MyndCrym and Whetherhead. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the 7 p.m. show. Half of all proceeds go to the Ohio Theatre Building Restoration Committee. Tickets are $10 in advance from the theater (419-241-6785) or $12 at the door. The Country Concert USA Karaoke Finals are being held at two local restaurants. From 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday the contest is scheduled at the Oarhouse Bar & Grill, 5044 Suder Ave. Additional dates will be May 27 and June 3, 10, and 17, with finals scheduled for June 24. The Village Inn, 4984 South Main St., Sylvania, will host the contest from 7 to 11 p.m. today, May 24 and 31, and June 7, 14, and 21, with finals on June 28.

Contestants must be at least 18 years old to compete. Each winner of the preliminary contests will be sent to Country Concert '07 in Hickory Hill Lakes to compete at the finals on July 6. The Toledo Repertoire Theatre's Young Rep Mainstage Production of Macbeth - for Kids will be staged at 7 p.m. May 24 and 25 and 2:30 p.m. May 26 at 16 Tenth St. Directed by Libby Lane, the production is for children ages 6-12. A charity fund-raiser to benefit the Christina's Smile Children's Dental Clinic is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. June 3 at the Toledo Speedway Bar and Grill, 5625 Benore Rd. The day's events, sponsored by Toledo's Roadway terminal, include 50/50 raffles, silent auctions, live music, horse races, and a motorcycle show. Tickets are $10 and include an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner. Tickets for children are $5.

AUDITIONS

Fort Findlay Playhouse, 300 West Sandusky St., Findlay, has scheduled auditions on Sunday and Monday for The Radio Theater, to be presented May 31 and June 1-3. Steve Froelich will be directing a behind-the-scenes look at four different radio shows. The production runs May 31 and June 1-3. Needed is a cast of up to 43 people. Auditions for The Curious Savage, directed by Leroy Morgan, will be held June 4 and 5. A cast of eight women and six men of varying ages are needed. Production dates will be July 12-15 and 18-21. Information: 419-423-7168.

The Ohio Renaissance Festival will hold auditions June 2 and 9 at the festival grounds in Harveysburg, Ohio. Needed are men and women 16 years and older to perform as street characters, stage combatants, singers, dancers, and musicians for its 18th annual season operating Saturdays, Sundays, and Labor Day from Sept. 1 through Oct. 21. Experience is a plus, but not necessary, as workshops will be offered for all categories during rehearsals running weekends from June 30 to Aug. 26. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and must be completed by 11 a.m. Those auditioning are requested to bring a photo if possible, dress to move around outdoors, a lunch, and water.
