SonoNovo Chamber Ensemble closes Trinity artist series

The Trinity Performing Artist Series winds up its season with a 7 p.m. concert tomorrow by the SonoNovo Chamber Ensemble and pianists Wayne Anthony and Charles Brown.

On the program are J.S. Bach's Concerto for Two Pianos in C Minor, Schumann's Andante and Variations for two pianos, two cellos, and horn; a sonata by Poulenc, and music by Britten and Enfante.

Two singing groups comprising University of Toledo medical students will give a free recital at 7 p.m. today in the Center for Creative Education Glass Atrium on the Health Science campus in South Toledo.

Docapella, a male septet, and Vocal Remedy, a female octet, will perform an eclectic program, with refreshments to follow.

The Toledo Symphony will wind up its Classics concert series with 8 p.m. performances May 9 and 10 in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle. Principal conductor Stefan Sanderling will conduct Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances and, with pianist William Wolfram, Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 2.

So popular was the Metropolitan Opera's Live in HD series production of Puccini's La Boheme, in April that the broadcast is to be given an encore at all participating theaters at 6:30 p.m. May 14. The local screening will be a Maumee Showcase Theaters, 1360 Conant St. Conductor Nicola Luisotti will lead a cast including Angela Gheorghiu, Ainhoa Arteta, Ramon Vargas, and Ludovic Tezier in this new Franco Zeffirelli production. The University Musical Society in Ann Arbor will present flutists Sir James Galway and Lady Jeanne Galway in a celebratory evening at 6 p.m. May 10 in Hill Auditorium at the University of Michigan. Galway is being presented with the Distinguished Artist Award during this 13th annual Ford Honors Program gala.

A recital featuring music by Poulenc, Gaubert, Bazzini, Doppler, and Chaminade by the honoree and his wife, with pianist Phillip Moll will follow presentation of the award. Also on the program is the Southeast Michigan Flute Association flute choir. Masterworks Chorale will hold auditions for singers for its 2008-2009 season from 6 to 8 p.m. May 20 and 21 at Ottawa Hills High School, 2532 Evergreen Rd., in the choral room. Singers will be asked to vocalize and to read music; a prepared audition piece is not necessary. Auditions last five to seven minutes.

At the same time, date, and place, the Chorale also is auditioning area high school students for an internship program bringing younger voices to the group for the coming season. Students should bring a letter of recommendation for a choral music teacher and make an appointment at 419-242-0800 for an audition.

Cincinnati ballet star Jay Goodlett will lead two ballet master classes May 17 at Ballet Theatre of Toledo, 1124 Corporate Drive. Advanced dancers will work from 12:30-2 p.m. and intermediate dancers will work from 2:15-3:45 p.m. The classes are open to the public; dancers not registered with the company may schedule a free placement class before May 17. Bowling Green State University's College of Music Arts announces its summer music camps for students grade 7 to 12, part of its annual Summer Music Institute. Nine camps will offer special attention, instruction, and experience in woodwinds, piano, vocal arts, brass, string orchestra, musical theater, recording studio, saxophone, and steel drum.
