Waller of British pop duo Peter and Gordon dies

Gordon Waller of the British pop duo Peter and Gordon, who had a string of hits in the 1960s including several written by Paul McCartney, has died. He was 64.

Waller died Friday at the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Conn., nursing supervisor Nity Oris confirmed yesterday. The duo s Web site says Waller went into cardiac arrest Thursday night.

Waller and Peter Asher, who met at the Westminster School in London, topped music charts around the world in 1964 with A World Without Love. McCartney, who was dating Asher s sister, Jane Asher, wrote the song.

Peter and Gordon had hits with other McCartney-written songs, including Nobody I Know and I Don t Want to See You Again.

Waller was born in Scotland and had been living in Ledyard, Conn.
