Joe Walsh to put on rock exhibit at Toledo Zoo

Rocker Joe Walsh will play at the Toledo Zoo May 31.

Joe Walsh has carved out a remarkable rock and roll resume that includes solo hits, massive success with the Eagles, and side gigs working with such luminaries as Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney.

Cool stuff, but he's also got the slightly nerdy cache covered with his lifelong hobby: ham radio.

On May 31, Walsh will play the Toledo Zoo Amphitheatre on his first solo tour in some time, showing off songs from soon-to-be-released new disc, "Analog Man," and no doubt plowing through his impressive backlog of solo material and stuff recorded with Barnstorm and the James Gang.

It's been 20 years since Walsh last released a solo album and he credits getting sober in 1994 with both his return and the long time it has taken him to get back in the studio with new songs. He told Rolling Stone magazine that it took him years to figure out how to work again after quitting alcohol.

His music is a staple of classic rock radio, most notably songs such as "Rocky Mountain Way," "Turn To Stone," "Life's Been Good," and "Funk #49." The latter was a highlight of the Eagles show at Huntington Center two years ago.

The Eagles are on a hiatus and plan to get back together next year for a 40th anniversary tour. In the meantime, Walsh will be pushing his solo album, possibly working with the James Gang again, and generally rocking out. "Analog Man" is due to be released June 5.
