School band to play at Detroit jazz fest

MONROE -- The Monroe High School Jazz Band is to take the main stage on Labor Day Weekend at the Detroit International Jazz Festival.

It is to perform from noon to 12:25 p.m. on the amphitheater stage at Hart Plaza. The Monroe High School band is one of six Michigan high school jazz bands to perform at the festival and the only one from Monroe County.

Also slated to perform are such stars as Wynton Marsalis, Pat Metheny, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Gary Burton, Terence Blanchard, and Sonny Rollins.
