Shooter Jennings doesn't simply descend from country royalty.
His roots are pure outlaw country and that's a completely different thing -- probably the difference between playing county fairs and Harley Davidson dealerships.
The son of the great Waylon Jennings and his wife, Jessi Colter, an excellent artist in her own right, Shooter's a self-described "son of a rebel saint" who will play Sylvania's Almost Oktoberfest on Saturday at the Toledo Harley Davidson, 7960 West Central Ave.
Jennings is touring to support his 2012 release "Family Man," which is firmly in the country camp after numerous flirtations with hard rock. But it's also been praised by critics who like the traditional bent Jennings takes with the music and the way he doesn't try to please the lowest common denominator of fans by being overly commercial.
"Family Man" is the 33-year-old artist's sixth release and he has explored metal, prog, hard-core country, and rock over the course of his relatively short career.
The one-day Almost Oktoberfest being presented by the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce and Heidelberg Distributing will be from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and will feature microbreweries that will provide beer tastings, local and regional bands performing before Jennings, as well as food and other activities.
Presale tickets are $10 and can be purchased at The Andersons Marketplace, Toledo Harley and Signature Harley Davidson, and the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce by calling 419-882-2135. Tickets are $15 at the door.
