LAPEER, Mich. — The lead singer of the rock group The Calling says he was abducted, beaten and robbed after performing at a festival in Michigan.

The group tells The Associated Press that Alex Band was attacked outside a store in Lapeer early Sunday. The group had performed at a festival in the city, 45 miles north-northwest of Detroit.

The Calling says Band sustained a spinal fracture, three broken teeth and needed 15 stiches in his chin.

According to a police statement that doesn’t mention Band by name, the victim says two males forced him into a minivan, then assaulted and robbed him before dropping him off elsewhere in town.

The Los Angeles-based group’s 2001 song, “Wherever You Will Go,” was used in several TV series and in the movie “Coyote Ugly.”
