Motown Records founder Berry Gordy Jr.
DETROIT — A plaque honoring Berry Gordy has been unveiled in the Motown Records founder’s hometown of Detroit.
The Detroit Free Press reports the 300-pound, 10-square-foot stone is the first such monument that will make up the Detroit Walk to Fame.
The Gordy plaque was shown off at a ceremony Thursday by the Detroit Entertainment Commission, a 10-person advisory board appointed by the Detroit City Council.
The commission released its preliminary list of honorees, including Henry Ford, Aretha Franklin, Rosa Parks, Eminem, Diana Ross, Tim Allen, Marvin Gaye, Joe Louis, and Stevie Wonder.
The plan calls for the granite stars to be placed at relevant landmarks across Detroit: The Gordy star would be installed in front of his former mansion.
