PRINCETON, N.J.  — Princeton University has evacuated nearly 7,000 people on its campus and in off-campus university buildings after receiving a phoned-in bomb threat.

The university says state, federal and local law enforcement agencies are investigating and that bomb-sniffing dogs have been brought in to check buildings from administrative offices to dorms.

Princeton spokesman Martin Mbugua says the school received the threat around 9 a.m. today and decided to evacuate just before 10:30 a.m. The spokesman says officials took that time to assess the threat.

No classes are in session, though some summer programs are.

The Ivy League university told employees that most would not be expected to return to work today.
