Feds seek decade for NH woman over Rwanda genocide

CONCORD, N.H. — Federal prosecutors want a New Hampshire woman convicted of lying about her role in the 1994 Rwanda genocide to serve 10 years in prison, saying she participated in killing on an “industrial scale.”

Lawyers for 43-year-old Beatrice Munyenyezi say they will seek a sentence of less than a year.

A jury in February convicted Munyenyezi of two counts of masking her role in the genocide to enter the United States as a refugee in 1998 and to obtain citizenship a decade ago in the very same federal courthouse where she will be sentenced Wednesday.

Her first trial in 2012 ended in a mistrial after jurors failed to agree.

Munyenyezi has already spent 26 months behind bars. She was free for nearly a year between her mistrial and her conviction.
