HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Authorities say an 87-year-old southeastern Michigan man in a wheel chair took a shot at his wife in a dispute over checks he’d written.

The Oakland County sheriff’s department says no one was injured in Saturday morning’s shooting in Highland Township, about 30 miles northwest of Detroit.

The department says the couple’s daughter called saying she was on the phone with her parents when she overheard them arguing about checks her father had signed.

She says her 73-year-old mother went to the mailbox to retrieve the checks and returned to find her husband pointing a handgun at her.

The daughter says her mother wrestled the gun from him, but he got another handgun and fired at her.

The department says it sent deputies, who arrested the man.
