BOSTON — Two friends of the suspected Boston Marathon bomber have been indicted on federal charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice.
Dias Kadyrbayev (DYE’-us kad-uhr-BYE’-ev) and Azamat Tazhayakov (AHZ’-maht tuh-ZAYE’-uh-kov) are accused of trying to dispose of evidence from Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s (joh-HAHR’ tsahr-NEYE’-ehvz) dorm room. The two have been detained since they were initially charged in May.
Tazhayakov’s attorney said Thursday his client did nothing wrong, and authorities are on a witchhunt.
Kadyrbayev’s attorney said his client never knowingly disposed of evidence and he was horrified someone he knew was involved in the bombings.
Also Thursday, a hearing scheduled for Monday for a third Tsarnaev friend charged in the case, Robel Phillipos, was canceled. Phillipos is accused of lying to investigators. His attorneys say they’re in talks that could resolve the case.
