BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — President Obama says Republican lawmakers seeking a government shutdown over his health care law are not offering an economic plan.

More than a third of House Republicans are urging their leader to take that step this fall.

The president says those lawmakers should instead be focused on the “pocketbook, bread-and-butter” issues that affect Americans.

Obama says one such issue is college affordability.

It’s the topic of a two-day bus tour that is taking the president through New York and Pennsylvania.
