Chandler police say man fatally shot his 3-year-old son, then committed suicide

CHANDLER, Ariz. — Police say a man fatally shot his 3-year-old son outside a family gathering in Chandler and then committed suicide.

Detective Seth Tyler says the 25-year-old father walked out of the gathering being held early today at a Chandler home and carried out the shootings in his parked vehicle.

The child was found on his father’s lap.

Tyler says investigators hadn’t yet uncovered a motive for the murder-suicide.

The gathering was held at the home of a relative of the child’s mother.

The father’s name hasn’t yet been released.
