ADRIAN, Mich. — Southern Michigan authorities have filed charges against a jail inmate they say lied when he told police he knew the whereabouts of three young boys who disappeared three years ago.

Police say they think the boys are dead.

Nine-year-old Andrew, 7-year-old Alexander and 5-year-old Tanner Skelton were last seen at their father’s home in Morenci in 2010. They were to be returned to their mother, and the disappearance sparked a large search.

John Skelton says he didn’t harm his sons. He’s serving 10-15 years for unlawful imprisonment.

Fifty-year-old Robert J. Jamison of Adrian was arraigned Friday in Lenawee County District Court on a charge of lying to police.

Police tell the Daily Telegram he made up a detailed story about what happened to the boys and wasted investigators’ time.
