DETROIT — A man has been charged with first-degree murder and assault with intent to murder in a weekend drive-by shooting in Detroit that killed a 12-year-old boy and wounded another man.

Detroit police say 33-year-old Alvin D. Conwell of Detroit was arraigned today and ordered held in the Wayne County Jail. A preliminary examination is scheduled Tuesday.

The mother of Kenis Green Jr. has said that he was sitting outside a house early Saturday with other family members while celebrating a relative’s birthday when the shooting happened. The prosecutor’s office says 25-year-old Greg Owens was wounded.

The prosecutor’s office says the shooting followed a dispute between Conwell and Owens.

Conwell was arrested Monday.

A message seeking information on whether he has a lawyer was sent to the prosecutor’s office.
